International high-level dialogue forum

Shaping a globalised world

Profile and Aims

The Development and Peace Foundation (sef:) seeks to contribute, through its work, to peace and sustainable development worldwide, based on the core principles of social justice, human dignity, democracy and a respectful approach to the environment and natural resources.

To that end, the Foundation aims to raise awareness of global interdependencies at all political levels. It makes it a particular priority to heighten sensitivity to views and perspectives from other world regions, particularly the Global South.

In its work, the Foundation identifies solutions to current challenges in a globalised world. Its events and publications synthesise the findings of academic research with practical policy-making experience.

The Foundation, which is funded by the federal states of Berlin, Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony, sees itself as:

  • an independent forum for international and interdisciplinary dialogue on global challenges,
  • a mediator between policy-makers, academics and civil society,
  • an initiator of political debate through its selection of topics and the content of its events and publications,
  • a provider of information on global interdependencies and their significance for the regional and local level

Institute for Development and Peace (INEF)

The Foundation has maintained close links with the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF) at the University of Duisburg-Essen since the INEF was established in 1990. The joint publication series "GLOBAL TRENDS. ANALYSIS" and the newsletter sef/INEF News are notable examples of their collaboration.
